5 out of 5 stars Good, solid tool   July 22, 2010
H. Person
I just finished putting in a 3/4" solid oak floor in a 12'x15' bedroom/office. This tool worked perfectly the whole time, even though I only used a 1/4" fitting, versus the 3/8" fitting recommended in the manual. It sank the 2" nails to the perfect depth every time, never jammed, and shows no wear from the job. (The face of the mallet that came with it shows some wear, but can be replaced.)
For use, I recommend good, hard swings of the mallet, as this helps set the boards before the cylinder activates and shoots the nail. Be careful not to screw up like I did, (twice), by letting the tool rest on the board instead of on the tongue. I shot two nails into the face of the floor and had to get a Porta-Nail 42620 Flooring Nail/Staple Setting Tool to fix them properly. (It is worth buying one of those before you begin, too!)
I expect to put wood floors in several more rooms, now that I have the experience, and paying a premium for such a quality tool is well worth it.

5 out of 5 stars happy nailer   July 20, 2010

I shopped around on the internet and at the big box stores for a floor nailer. I looked at the inexpensive brands online but was afraid to take a chance. I already have the Bostitch brand framing, and several finish nailers that I have been very happy with. When I saw this floor nailer at this great price I decided to purchase it. The nailer has worked flawlessly during the 1300+ sq feet of 3/4" solid oak, a great tool!

5 out of 5 stars Worth the $$$   April 30, 2010

Installed about 1400 square feet of 3/4" solid white oak over a 2 week time period. 4500+ nails driven without a single problem. The few nails not completely driven were operator error, not the nailer.

5 out of 5 stars Works just fine   April 25, 2010

Had this gun for about a month now. Installed about 400 feet of pre-finished 3/4 oak so far. No problems with the gun. I tried the plastic "platform" accessory that came with the gun, as instructions said that this accessory was made for putting down pre-finished 3/4 planks. I did not like the way the gun worked with this accessory. I use the gun with no accessories attached. Seems to seat the nails perfect "as is", but the nails are set too high when the "platform" is attached. I am glad I purchased this gun, and would recommend it to others.

5 out of 5 stars Review by a non-professional first-time user   January 8, 2010
D. Murphy (Lehigh Valley, PA USA)
While this tool is one of the most expensive I've purchased, its price is only a small percentage of the cost of the flooring being installed. While I did have the option of renting this tool, I chose to purchase it so that I wouldn't be influenced by the "meter is running" thoughts and took my time with the installation.

The nailer requires some assembly and the appropriate allen wrenches were included. The nailer also came with the finished floor foot that I installed. The instructions were understandable and it takes driving about three nails to get the hang of using it.

There was alot of bad internet talk about the air consumption of this tool and bad performance because of it. This tool has a 3/8 inch air fitting and does use quite a bit of air. Since I borrowed a portable compressor (30 gal, 120psi, single-stage) with a 1/4 inch inlet hose set-up, I put a 6 inch 3/8 brass pipe on the tool then used a 1/4 inch air fitting off that with no problems at all. Later, I picked-up a 20 gal, 150psi, single stage compressor and set it up 3/8 inch and found no difference. I'd be a little hesitiant to run this nailer off of a pancake compressor. It's a little tough to find a small compressor that produces the air the specs call for, so for a few extra dollars I figured a little extra in the storage tank would go a long way.

If you are unfortunate enough to jam the nailer, figuring out how to clear it does take a while to figure out (basically take the foot off and come up from the bottom). With that minor work I've done on it, I get the sense that this nailer is built to be put together one way and I'm not afraid to do any major service disassembly if ever need be.

I did notice someone offering a nail set tool for the cleat nails and regret not purchasing it. I was able to do the job with a flat screwdriver, but after doing it the first time I understood why there's a special tool for it.

The only thing this unit didn't come with was a way to store it. This tool is certainly a "keeper" and since I plan on using it a couple more times over the next few years, I'm looking into finding something like a large ammo can to keep it nice.
