Amazon.com Review
Framing, siding, decking, attaching wood to masonry or driving nails into hard engineered lumber--you name it--this versatile and lightweight framing nailer from Bostitch does it all, and does it well. With 1000 in./lbs. of driving power, the tool is by no means out-muscled by other nailers in its class.

Weighing just 7.9 pounds, the tool handles great in tight quarters like attics and during otherwise shoulder-burning overhead tasks. The innovative design is also a godsend when nailing top plates to floor joints or when crawling under that low deck to reinforce the new hot-tub. A patented push-button, depth-of-drive control of course means there's no adjusting compressor pressure, but also that you don't have to fumble for tools or awkward switches when you're standing on a steep roof. The depth control ensures quick and simple countersinking in a wide variety of materials from siding to decking. Just set the compressor at 80 psi and adjust the depth as needed.

The tool's in-line magazine and aggressive toe-nailing teeth ensure excellent balance and control even on awkward, angled shots. A rugged, magnesium housing makes this nailer extremely durable. An extruded aluminum magazine loads in a snap for less downtime. A tool-free die-cast adjustable deflector conveniently directs exhaust away from the face. And, a removable no-mar tip protects the work for less prep before painting. Since the tool is designed to last so long, its molded comfort grip is built to last the life of tool, too, for years of comfort and control. The purchase is covered by a manufacturer 7-year warranty. --Brian D. Olson

4 out of 5 stars Nice nailer   January 6, 2008
Great quality. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it is a little harder to find the specific nail type for this particular unit.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome and reliable nailer...   March 30, 2006

I replaced a Porter-Cable RH framing nailer I had used for several years with this Bostitch. The P-C had been in the shop twice and had some occassional jamming problems... not so with this Bostitch. The P-C has been relegated to a 'back-up' position. I have used this Bostitch model and have had trouble free operation for over a year. I would guess I have put more than 20-30,000 3" and 3-1/2" nails through this gun without a snag. I'm not sure why reviewers keep complaining about unavailibility of nails. You can find them on Amazon (for all brands, sizes and angles) if not in your local 'big box' stores in lots of 500 or 4000 count. Perhaps, its the inconvience of shipping/waiting which can be a hassle if framing is your profession (it's not mine, but I do quite a bit of framing). Having no box store nearby, I just keep an eye on the inventory and order more when I start to get low.

There may be a better RH framing nailer out there on the market, but I'd be hard-pressed to figure out how. All nailers nail... power and reputation, balance and weight, reliability and trouble-free use are the determining factors as far as I'm concerned, and the Bostitch N88RH has them all!

Note: Amazon's third-party vendor Grizzly has a nice carry bag that 'just fits' this nailer for around $22 (including the s/h). "Grizzly #H3401 Nail Gun Carrying Bag". It has hand-carrying handles and also a shoulder strap. Great way to protect your tool. Fast delivery, too!

5 out of 5 stars First Timers   August 17, 2005

The family had a number of projects to build so we made an investment in the N88RH. Now three of us are completely hooked on this marvelous nailer. In the begining I was suprised at it's size, but the lightness of the unit makes it quite easy to use. We all had carpentry experience, however none of us had ever used an air nailer. The learning curve was very short. Projects can go up very fast.

5 out of 5 stars great nail gun   May 23, 2005

I bought this nail gun about three months ago to use on a garden shed I am building. I probably didn't need the nail gun just to build the shed, but I thought it might come in handy if I did more projects later. I went through most of three boxes of nails with this thing and it never once misfired. the power is more than adequate and it has made the job much faster. When framing walls with a hammer, everything moves as you swing but with a gun it goes together much better. I give 5 stars because I am completely satisfied with this nail gun.

5 out of 5 stars DIY Homeowner's dream, but nails hard to buy.   February 24, 2005

PROS:
- This is a great and reliable nailer. I'm using it now to frame in a basement. Not a single jam.
- Haven't had it long enough to comment on durability, but I've put it down for 2 months, picked it up, and started nailing with not even a pause.
- The spiked teeth make toenailing a breeze.

CONS:
- Plastic collated nails in smaller quantities at 21 deg. for RH nailers are not available. That means you're stuck buying 4000 qty cases for your first job, no matter how small, and it makes having several nail sizes and types on hand an expensive proposition. I have been to 7 different hardware stores (big and small) in the DC metro area and can't find a single box of 21 deg plastic collated nails smaller than 4000 unit cases.
- Wear eye protection! Those plastic pieces from the collated nails can be dangerous as they come flying out from all angles.
- Had some minor trouble nailing treated lumber using a smaller compressor. Make sure your compressor is well-matched and up to the task with this nailer.
